ABOUT THE RECREATION GROUND

Set in some 17 acres, Somerton Recreation Ground is without question the green centre of this popular Somerset town. Situated within easy reach of the entire town, the Recreation Ground contributes significantly to the social and leisure needs of residents and visitors of all age groups.
Facilities include a well-equipped children’s playground, skatepark, several football pitches, a rugby pitch, floodlit tennis courts, multisport court, outdoor bowls, sports & social club with meeting/function room, changing rooms, showers, disabled toilets and baby changing facilities.
SRGT’s facilities are available to hire for a range of sports and activities. The grounds and facilities are also available to hire for hosting social events. To request further information, please use the Contact Us form.
General Rules of the Recreation Ground are NO dogs (except assistance dogs), NO horses; NO motor vehicles of any sort; NO microlights, Drones or Model planes; NO golf; NO commercial activity without consent.
Somerton Recreation Ground Trust CIO is a registered charity (CIO 1181452) with the aim of preserving, maintaining and improving the facilities for the ongoing benefit of the town and local area.
This great facility is provided by the Charity and not the Town Council and the Charity needs all the help it can get both financial and non financial.
The annual running costs for the Recreation Ground are in excess of £30,000. It is funded mainly through pitch fees and sponsorship, supplemented by rents and hire charges from regular and occasional users of the various facilities along with a small grant from Somerton Town Council.
OBJECTIVE
THE PROVISION AND MAINTENANCE OF A RECREATION GROUND FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE TOWN OF SOMERTON WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF POLITICAL, RELIGIOUS OR OTHER OPINIONS, WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE FOR THE SAID INHABITANTS.
